Aspects To Consider While Choosing An Air Conditioning

These are some fundamental aspects to keep in view to find the best air conditioning system for your needs:

  • Climate
  • Area
  • Size
  • Design
  • Reliability
  • Health
  • Noise

Types Of Air Conditioning Systems

An important fact to remember while shopping for a temperature control system or central air conditioner is that there are four distinct options. Examining the components and advantages of each system is a must. There are four main categories of air conditioners, and they are as follows:

Ducted Air Conditioning

The term “ducted air” is commonly used to refer to reverse-cycle air conditioning that is installed in a duct system. These setups require two separate installations, one on the outside (the compressor) and one inside (the condenser) of the roof cavity. A ducted system is the best option for cooling and heating a complete house and providing a sleek, discreet aesthetic. Ducted air conditioners come in a wide variety of styles, some of which are:

  • Reverse cycle ducted air conditioning
  • Bulkhead air conditioning
  • Package air conditioning

Split System Air Conditioning

A split system air conditioning system consists of a wall-mounted indoor head unit and an external compressor. In the most basic terms, this system is not intended to cool the entire house but rather to cool certain rooms inside it. Among the many available options for split air conditioners are the following:

  • Split wall air conditioning
  • Suspended ceiling-mounted air conditioning
  • Floor-standing air conditioning
  • Ceiling-mounted cassette air conditioning
  • Window wall air conditioning

Multi Split System Air Conditioning

Multiple indoor units of differing capacities, such as a wall or floor-mounted or ducted units, can be connected to a single outside unit in a multi-split system air conditioner. These setups are great for large buildings with a number of individual rooms that need their independent climate control. For multi-split air conditioners, the two primary varieties are:

  • Multi-split air conditioning
  • VRV air conditioning

Evaporative Cooling

To cool a space, an evaporative cooler operates in a manner distinct from that of a conventional refrigerant-based air conditioner. With evaporative cooling, dry air from outside is evaporated and then recirculated inside the house.

If you’re interested in conserving energy and want a cooling method that doesn’t include chemicals like refrigerants, an evaporative cooler is a way to go. Every space is different and each client has specific air conditioning requirements. This aspect makes it essential for air conditioning professionals to clearly understand your needs and space before recommending the right product.

A well-established and licensed provider will work with you and ensure that the air conditioning system that works best for your setting. Our team will handle the installation to industry standards so that the product warranty stays intact.

Summer Air Conditioning

summer air conditioning

As Summer in Sydney approaches, consider stepping up before the scorching temperatures increase. Heatwaves are frequently increasing due to climate change, which is already causing extreme weather events. Because of this, having air conditioning in your home throughout the summer is crucial. When it comes to Sydney air conditioning, Endeavour Air Conditioning is your best bet for dependable, high-quality service for homes and businesses.

However, an air conditioner is only half the solution to a sweltering home. Amid Australia’s scorching summers, deciding on a proper air conditioning setting is often disregarded. Here we will look at the ideal temperature and why you need to set it.

Why You Need To Set The Right Temperature For Summer Cooling

There are several reasons to set the right temperature, such as:

Improved Indoor Air Quality

The discomfort of a headache isn’t the only thing that hot air may bring on. Allergies, asthma, and other respiratory conditions are just a few health concerns that heat can trigger. People with cardiac conditions are particularly susceptible to heat exhaustion. The best way to avoid these issues is to keep your home’s temperature and air quality at their ideal levels.

Less Humidity

Too much humidity in the summer can increase perspiration and cause a host of health problems, such as asthma, allergies, and other breathing difficulties. Some moulds, if left unchecked, can lead to severe and lifelong health issues. Reduce indoor humidity by allowing your air conditioner to run at a moderate temperature. As a bonus, this will reduce humidity, allowing you to wear your favourite clothes without worrying about ruining them from sweat.

Excellent Indoor Comfort

An optimal temperature set in your home becomes crucial for your overall comfort and physical and mental well-being.

Choosing The Ideal Temperature

Not knowing what setting to set your air conditioner at during the summer might lead to some of the previously mentioned issues. You can ensure your comfort level by adjusting your air conditioner’s temperature. It’s crucial to consider these factors while deciding what settings to keep your air conditioning unit running.

The Most Cost-Efficient Temperature Setting

There is no “one size fits all” when determining the optimal temperature; instead, it is based on the individual’s tastes and requirements. However, if you insist on having a number, the recommended range is between 23 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius. Finding the sweet spot when it comes to air conditioning temperatures will take some trial and error. It’s also important to consider your priorities regarding cost-cutting, comfort, or a combination of the two.

Consider your health, the number of people in your home, and the amount of direct sunshine entering your home when deciding what temperature to put your Sydney air conditioning system at throughout the summer (and issues, if any).

Ideal Indoor Temperature For Sleeping

Your preferred sleeping temperature will vary widely from person to person, but you should always take the ambient air temperature into mind. If the outside temperature is only 24 degrees Celsius, it may be more efficient to open the windows than to chill the room to 25 degrees Celsius with the air conditioner.

It is recommended to set your air conditioner to a temperature of 1 to 2 degrees lower than the actual temperature outside to combat the heat and humidity of a Sydney summer night. With this setup, your dehumidifier can operate all night long, removing moisture from the air in your home.

To avoid hot and cold areas in the house, you may use ceiling fans in regular summer mode settings to spread the cool air from your air conditioner.

Why Is My Air Conditioning Running But Not Heating

air conditioning cleaning

The ability to utilise the same aircon unit for cooling and heating is among the most unappreciated privileges of the twenty-first century. However, what follows when that choice is no longer available? We at Endeavour Air Conditioning are the leading air conditioning Sydney experts and can cater to all your specific heating and cooling requirements.

Many clients call us with the air conditioning running but not heating issue. In some cases, there is only a minor cause for it, while in others, it could be something complex causing the problem. Here is some helpful information to help you understand the causes and fixes.

Reasons For Air Conditioning Running But Not Heating

Nothing is more unpleasant than being in a cold room as a malfunctioning air conditioner fails to warm you up. Before delving into the AC heating problem’s causes, I should mention that every unit requires a few minutes of warming up before it begins to create heat. Ensure you give it some time before panicking. There may be numerous explanations why your Ac system cannot produce heat, but these are the most common:

1. There Is No Heating Option Available

There is a solution to your current dilemma that appears basic yet is frequently missed. Those who have recently purchased a new air conditioning unit and are having issues with the heating mode may need to consult the user handbook.

Checking to see if your unit is fitted with a reverse air conditioning system must be your first step if the machine will not begin heating. A widespread misperception among purchasers of air conditioners is that all systems are the same.

Avoid purchasing a non-heating air conditioner by speaking with the vendor or reviewing the model’s specifications online. If you cannot find the information in the instructions, the heating mode indicator on the remote should show if you can use the AC for heating.

2. You are Using Incorrect Settings

Turning on the air conditioner like you would during the summer is insufficient. For the heat mode to function, you must configure the parameters appropriately.

Here’s how to ensure that your air conditioner is in heat mode:

  • Change the setting to HEAT: If you wish to heat the space, avoid setting the device on AUTO mode. The temperature must be adjusted higher than for cooling for the air conditioner’s heating feature to function correctly. The government-recommended heating setting of 20 degrees Celsius will not be sufficient to activate the heat pump. Adjust the temperature to at least 75°F (24°C) instead.
  • Set the fan speed: Once more, you should not leave the air conditioner in automatic mode. Alternately, adjust the fan’s direction and speed to your liking.

Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning Vs Split System: What Are The Differences?

What is the best air conditioning system for your building? Choosing the best for it could be very difficult. It could also depend on the type of building, whether it’s a residential or a commercial building. So, How do you choose between all of the air conditioning types and models on the market today?

One of the most common types of air conditioning systems today is the reverse cycle. You’ve probably also heard of or seen split system air conditioning. So, what distinguishes these air conditioning systems?

Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning

This kind of air conditioning system combines two systems into one. Reverse cycle air conditioning can heat and cool at the same time. It can keep your house or office comfortable throughout the year. In addition, reverse cycle air conditioning is more efficient than other heating and cooling systems.

This air conditioning removes heat from the indoor air and transfers it outside to make your house cool. In the heating mode, this air conditioning system reverses its operation.
They transfer heat from the outside to the inside. As a result, there will be heat energy outside even in the coldest weather. There are two types of reverse cycle air conditioning: ducted and split systems.

Split-System

Split systems are not all reverse cycle air conditioning. Some split systems only provide cooling. On the other hand, reverse cycle split systems can heat and cool simultaneously. Split systems are divided into two parts.

A split system consists of an outdoor unit and an indoor unit that is typically wall-mounted. A split air conditioning can only heat or cool one room or a small space. It is simple to set up and works well. As a result, split systems are one of the most popular types of air conditioning on the market today.

The Benefits of A Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning

Installing a reverse cycle air conditioning will provide you with more than just efficient heating and cooling. This air conditioning will save you money on your utility bills, especially during the winter. Transferring heat from the outside to the inside of your home uses far less energy than producing heat.

You will not need to purchase and install multiple systems with this kind of air conditioning system. Instead, you will get all of your heating and cooling from a single air conditioner. Heating with this air conditioner is also extremely safe. Even when in heating mode, the reverse cycle air conditioning components will remain cool.

The Benefit of A Split-System Air Conditioning

A split air conditioning unit is simple to instal because no ductwork is required. Even if the outdoor unit is 100 feet away from the indoor unit, only a small hole in the wall is required for the copper tubing and control wing to pass through. If a flat section of the roof is available, the air conditioning system could be installed there. The installation is also cost-effective because the fittings require only minor modifications to your home. The lack of ductwork means lower labour costs and, as a result, more affordable installation.

Make Your Choice

So, after reading the description above, have you been able to decide which type of air conditioning you will use? Or are you even more confused to decide?

Don’t be concerned. You may need to consult with us, Endeavour Air Conditioning Sydney, to determine the best option. Endeavour Air Conditioning is dedicated to providing high-quality products and exceptional customer service. What Is Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning?

Even though many believe the climate of Australia to always be hot and sultry, some places get two to four seasons every year. Sydney experiences a mild winter which if compared to the extreme heat of the summer months can be quite cold. So, what is reverse cycle air conditioning and why is it suitable for the climate of Sydney? Simply put, a reverse cycle air conditioner can both cool and warm your room up. During the oppressive summer, such an AC cools the air to bring the temperature down and when it gets cold during the winter months, it conditions the air to make the room warm and cosy.

Why Is A Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning Unique and How Does It Work?

Well, the main difference between such an AC from your regular ACs is that it has three units instead of two. It has an outdoor condenser unit, an indoor evaporator unit, and a reversing valve with a thermostat. These days, however, most of air conditioners come with a reverse cycle. A reverse cycle air conditioner will be competent enough to maintain a certain temperature if it has been sized precisely.

Why Should You Opt for A Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner?

There are quite a few advantages of using an AC fitted with the reverse cycle.

  • Multi-purpose AC – This is an obvious advantage as a reverse cycle AC can both cool and heat a room.
  • The economical choice – As a direct effect of its multi-usability, such an AC is also the more economical choice as it saves you the cost of buying an extra heating unit for winters.
  • Safer heating option – Since these reverse AC units reach a certain temperature and maintain it, there is no chance of overheating. It also comes installed with a thermostat that regulates the heat and reduces any chance of fire breaking out which is always a possibility with normal heaters.
  • Adaptable and flexible – Usually, in regular ACs, one has to manually set the temperature and regulate it according to their needs. But in a reverse cycle AC, there is a thermostat installed along with the inverter technology which adapts to the temperature and condition of the room. This also reduces energy consumption as well as carbon emission. Therefore, it is not only easy on the budget but also on the environment.
  • Air purification – Yes that’s right, some reverse cycle air conditioners can also purify the air by trapping dust particles and fire-borne germs before it enters the home. Some units also come with a feature to eliminate bad odour from the air!

If your AC does not have this system and you want it installed, then you need professional help. An upgrade to the reverse cycle mechanism will need electrical work as refrigerant handling can only be done with legal licences. Thus, if you need an air conditioning service Sydney to get this done, Endeavour Air Conditioning is the way to go. Any other problems related to air conditioning Sydney can also be easily solved by professionals from Endeavour Air Conditioning services.

How to Clean Air Conditioner Filter

How to Clean Air Conditioner Filter?

Air Conditioning

The climate of Sydney is such that it becomes almost a necessity to keep the air conditioning on throughout the day. But did you know a running air conditioning accumulates dirt in its filter? By its design, it catches dust particles and every other tiny foreign object that flows in with the air. Needless to say, the filter gets dirty from time to time and needs to be cleaned to ensure a seamless flow of cool air into your rooms. Besides that, a clean air conditioning filter will also make the air conditioning motor consume less energy as compared to the motor of an AC with a dirty and clogged filter, which has to work twice as hard to condition the air.

How to Clean Air Conditioner Filter: Step by Step

The question is how to clean air conditioner filters? Well, the process is quite simple. You just need to follow these simple steps to clean the filters. But do remember that hiring a professional to do it will remove any possibilities of damages or errors.

Step 1: Know how an air conditioning filter looks like

Firstly, you should know what an AC filter looks like. In most air conditioners, it looks like a tray with networks of mesh. It can be located by popping up the plastic hood or cover of the AC indoor unit. The filters are usually fitted into a place specifically marked for them.

Step 2: Keep the air conditioning switched off

You must keep the AC switched off while taking the filter out. Gently take the filters out one at a time, there will be two, and keep them aside. Since an AC is fitted at a high position, ask someone to assist you by either holding you in place or taking the filter from you as you remove them. This will help you avoid accidents and damage.

Step 3: Take it out and wash

Once you have taken the filter out, take it outdoors or inside a closed washroom and use a brush to shake off all the dust from it. Be sure to cover your mouth and nose while you do it. You can also wash the mesh on the filter with water,

Step 4: Drying

Before you put them back in the air conditioner, make sure they’re completely dry, perhaps by leaving them out in the sun to dry.

Step 5: Put them back

Once the filters are clean you can fit them back in the space marked for them and gently close the lid.

Ideally, you should be cleaning your air conditioning filter once every three to four weeks, especially if the climate where you live is dry and the air contains a lot of dust. You should also make sure to service and maintain your air conditioning at least once a year.

Hire Professional Air Conditioning Service

The best way to deal with a dirty air conditioning filter is to call for professional help and thus Endeavor Air Conditioning services are the solution to all problems in air conditioning Sydney.

When the issue at hand is a clogged air conditioning filter that you can’t handle on your own, the clear way out of this mess is to call Endeavor air conditioning service Sydney. This way, you can be sure that your air conditioning is in the best hands possible and also avoid any injuries or damages that may happen when you try to do it yourself.

Air Conditioning Cleaning, How Much Does It Cost?

Air Conditioning Sutherland Shire

For a typical house in an urban setting, the air conditioning is something that provides the right environment and helps you get an oasis of relaxation and rest in your favourite corner. It is the air conditioner which helps you feel welcome during the hot summer days and which makes you cosy inside while a chilly breeze blows outside. An air conditioner and the allied systems are crucial parts of the house which create a healthy and comfortable ambience in the house.

Over time, however, the whole system finds it more and more difficult to provide the same level of comfort and coolness as it did right after installation. Similarly, the heating provided by the HVAC might be consuming more energy to produce the same amount of heat. The reason for reduced efficiency is chiefly unclean systems that have collected dirt over time.

Getting the air conditioner thoroughly cleaned

As part of the annual maintenance and repair job the air conditioner is always cleaned by the professionals you hire or the company servicemen that visit however, that is never enough for any air conditioner system. Air conditioning cleaning is a regular affair, not something that you can get away with by doing it once a year or only with annual maintenance. Cleaning the system is essential for keeping the whole setup healthy for longer periods.

This should be noted that cleaning the air conditioner is not something being done to provide more cooling or heat to the house. Cleaning the system will get you the same efficiency that was there in the beginning which means lower energy bills later in the lifecycle. Cleaning also translates into a lot of savings because a whole lot of big-ticket repairs can be prevented if the compressor, pumps and other parts are working fine because you cleaned it regularly.

What is the cost of air conditioner cleaning?

This is a tricky question because there cannot be a single answer to this. The cost of cleaning can be nil if you do it yourself but can reach $100 or even $400 depending on the kind of system, the amount of cleaning, whether the installation is commercial or residential and the expertise of the service provider.

On average, the cost of a basic cleaning service for a split system air conditioner can range from $100 to $200, while a more thorough cleaning service that includes a chemical clean and inspection may cost between $250 to $400.

For ducted air conditioning systems, the cost of cleaning can range from $300 to $600 depending on the size of the system and the level of cleaning required.

It is to be noted here that getting your air conditioner cleaned can be a standalone service or it can be negotiated as part of your annual maintenance package. Ideally, the air conditioner should be cleaned once before every seasonal shift.

Professional services for optimum result

It is important to note that prices may vary between different service providers.

Mostly, the handling of any electrical appliance should be strictly done by professional service providers. The DIY approach is not recommended for anyone when it comes to major appliances like the air conditioner. Handling air conditioning even simply cleaning it is a complex task that warrants specialized tools and solutions. It also requires you to know the system in and out so that nothing is damaged. Cleaning requires water and water does not mix well with electricity hence, it is simply irrational to handle it without any expert help.

It is important to choose a licensed and reputable air conditioning service provider to ensure the safety and efficiency of your air conditioning system.

Endeavour Air Conditioning is your expert air conditioning Sydney. You can write to us about your air conditioning requirements via this online form, and we will call you back soon to discuss your requirements.

Air Conditioning Vents Replacement, How Do We Do It?

air conditioning vents replacement

Source: Cool Vectors by Vecteezy

If you have an air conditioner it is best to periodically call for air conditioning service so that the appliance remains functional and delivers top performance. An important part of air conditioner maintenance is air conditioning vents replacement which leads to multiple benefits for your appliance. A vent replacement upgrades the look of your AC and improves its efficiency.

However, to achieve the best results you should ask a professional to help you and the ideal period to go for a replacement is every 15-20 years. For convenience, you can club it with ductwork replacement.

How is air conditioning vent replaced?

All ducted air conditioners use a network of ducts and vents to transport air around the building. The vents can be in the floor, ceiling or the walls. The vents are available in different sizes, shapes and aesthetic appeal so that they can suit the space and each one provides a unique air flow.

Replacement of vents must be handled by a professional who is qualified to do the job and can ensure that no problem occurs with the newly fitted vents. It is advised that you do not try a DIY replacement as it needs an expert to look at the entire system.

The four steps of vent replacement are:

  1. Turn off the power to the air conditioner and lay out sheets to avoid mess
  2. Replace the crew and clean the ductwork
  3. Replace the old vent with new ones
  4. Do a performance test to ensure the air flow is perfect and in the right direction

With the multiple options, available in the market, you can choose a vent that complements the interiors of your space and accentuates its aesthetic beauty.

When should you replace the air conditioning vents?

As mentioned earlier the ideal time to replace the vents is after 15-20 years. However, there are other factors that determine and influence the need for replacing the vents:

  • Visible damage: Any mold or cracks that you notice on the vents are a sign that the vents need replacement. Mold build up can pose health risks so you must take this seriously.
  • High utility bills: If vents are blocked or broken you will notice a rise in your energy bills. When the vents are blocked, or broken the system needs to work harder to transport the air around the building. This means more energy consumption and higher energy bills.
  • Poor air quality: When the vents are broken or blocked, dust and dirt can get transported along with the conditioned air, thus decreasing the quality of air.

If you notice any of the above signs of damage or you think the vents are due for replacement, then you must hire a professional service provider who specializes in air conditioning repair and maintenance.

Make sure you call a professional who holds licenses and certifications to operate in your area. A timely air conditioner vent replacement will ensure better air quality, give you increased comfort and help you save energy.

What Are Common Problems With Air Conditioners?

Owning an AC is a very common practice. While most people tend to forget about their ACs during winter, come summer and the demand for AC rises. They make the summer heat bearable and during this time if the Ac breaks down and the air conditioner repair technician has to be called, it gives rise to anger and frustration. To avoid this, it is best to ensure regular check-up of the AC.

To handle some technical problems, the AC technician has to be called. However, certain common problems can be easily solved at home. They are:

  • Water leakage: This can take place inside and outside the house yet the reasons for the two are different. However, care should be taken to ensure that the AC is not switched on in times of heavy water leakage.
    • When AC starts leaking water inside the house, it is a sign that the AC has not been maintained; it has been neglected. Sometimes the pipe clogs up with algae etc and prevents water from going outside, which is then released inside the house as leakage. The breakdown of the condenser pump is also a possibility.
    • Some plausible reasons for water leakage outside the house near the outdoor unit are dry air filter, bad AC seal, broken condensate pipe, improper installation etc. These problems can only be solved by the air conditioner repairs person.
  • Leak in refrigerant: Freon or the AC refrigerant is tasked with cooling the hot air within the AC. Such leaks are harmful to the environment and reduce machine efficiency. In case the leak is minor, DIY solutions will prevent this but if it is a major leak, then the repairperson has to be called.
  • Dirty filters: With use dust and dirt tends to accumulate in the air filters of the AC. This tends to decrease its efficiency and the room takes longer to cool down. The dry filters need to be taken out from the AC after switching it off. Then the filters are cleaned and re-installed in their correct positions.
  • Evaporator coil freezes: In this situation, the AC does not get enough air to function and might stop working completely. If left unchecked, ice sheets accumulate on the coil thereby preventing the absorption of latent heat by the refrigerant. If this problem arises, the AC should be immediately stopped and an air conditioner repair technician should be immediately called to rectify the problem.
  • Electrical control failure: The AC functions smoothly only when the compressor, the condenser and blower motors work smoothly. However, there are times when there is a disruption in the connection either due to the wearing out of the wires or separation in the connection. Since this is an electrical problem, the AC repair person should be called and the problem officially solved.
  • Failure of the AC fan: The AC fan helps keep the compressor temperature down. This fan is located in the outdoor unit and if it stops functioning, the compressor might overheat and trip the electrical system. This problem needs the intervention of a professional air conditioner repairs technician and he should thus be called.

The above problems are easy to diagnose and deal with. While some require professional intervention, others can be done using DIY ideas. These problems are commonly found in homes with ACs and hence should not be a cause of tensions and frustrations.

Air Conditioning size

Air Conditioning Size, How To Choose The Right One For Your Room?

Most people think that the size of the air conditioner refers to its physical dimensions. However, this is not true. The AC size is its cooling capacity that is measured in British Thermal Units or BTUs. Irrespective of which AC one selects, an optimum sized AC that is based on the room size will:

  • Ensure its best efficiency performance and
  • Lower its operational costs.

Thus, even before looking into the nitty-grities of AC buying, it is important to calculate the space it will have to cool.

Cooling area calculation

This is very simple and can be obtained by multiplying the length and breadth of the cooling area. This area when multiplied again by 25BTUs gives the cooling capacity required from the AC to be purchased.

While the above formula works for a rectangular space, for triangular spaces, the formula for calculating the room size is (length x breadth)/2. For an odd-shaped room, the room needs to be broken down into squares, rectangles, triangles and then measurements taken accordingly to calculate the area.

Purchasing a smaller AC will affect the air conditioner service. Such inverters will only run thereby increasing the energy bills without much cooling the room.

Large-sized ACs will have a higher cooling capacity. Thus, they will cool the room very quickly thereby:

  • Making people catch a cold from the extreme difference in temperature and
  • Extracting all moisture from the room.

Such large-sized ACs will switch on and switch off with alarming frequency that might harm the compressor of the new machine. Additionally, the user would also have to buy a humidifier thereby adding to the AC costs.

Thus understanding the cooling area and opting for an optimum sized AC based on it will ensure the correct buy.

It is also very important to note here that a higher BTU indicates that the AC will cool the room faster and is hence the better AC. However, in reality, there are very few ACs that match up to the mentioned AC BTU. Thus, the BTU should not be the sole criterion on which to purchase the air conditioner.

Factors affecting BTU calculation

However, certain other factors also affect the BTU or AC cooling capacity. They are:

  • Ceiling height: For rooms with ceiling height more than the standard 8ft, ACs with higher BTU should be chosen to factor in the room height. Rooms that have a ceiling height of fewer than 8ft should opt for an AC with lower BTU.
  • Sunlight: The amount of sunlight entering the room has a strong impact on the cooling capacity of the AC. For sunny rooms, the BTU required should be increased by 10% for optimal air conditioner service. For rooms that are shaded, the BTU should be decreased by 10%
  • Occupants: More the number of occupants using the room, the higher should be the cooling capacity of the AC.
  • Kitchen: When installing AC in the kitchen, the BTU calculated should be increased by 4000 units.

Buying an undersized or oversized AC is one of the most common mistakes people make when buying an AC. Thus, the size of the room should be taken into consideration and the purchase based on it.

Green Air Conditioning: What You Need To Know

A reduction in carbon footprint is always a better option but HVAC systems are positioned high on the list of environment polluting gadgets. However, with the introduction of green air conditioning, it is possible to enjoy all AC comforts without increasing the carbon footprint.

The world is becoming environmentally aware and coming up with new laws and regulations to reduce pollution consciously. Under these laws, AC manufacturers are also replacing ozone-depleting refrigerants with eco-friendly ones. Certain technical innovations and improvements too have been added to make the AC more eco-friendly.

The initial cost of installing a green AC is relatively high but eventually, it facilitates a 20 to 50% saving in the utility bills. Thus, in the long run, this AC pays for itself and even earns more. However, going green is so much more than just saving money. Eventually, a green AC initiative will result in:

  • A healthier home environment,
  • Reduction in consumption of fossil fuels and
  • Reduced creation of greenhouse gases.

Tips on how best to use a green AC

The efficiency of the green AC depends on the factors enumerated below.

  • Increasing attic insulation:  This investment will reap rich rewards in the future.
  • Installing radiant heat barriers: This thin barrier metal insulation, when installed, will reduced heat transfer by almost 95%.
  • Installing ceiling fans: On cooler days switching on ceiling fans can help eliminate the need for air conditioning Sydney. It also helps to distribute the cold air thereby enabling the user to set a higher temperature on the thermostat. During winter, ceiling fans will help distribute the warmth evenly throughout the room.
  • Ductwork sealing: This is extremely important as poor ductwork sealing will reduce the efficiency of the AC. The ductwork that runs through non-insulated spaces will also harm the AC efficiency.
  • Preferring programmable thermostats: Installing these thermostats will automatically scale up and scale down the temperature based on the prevalent room temperature. Thus, the user will not have to take on the responsibility of manually doing the same.

It is a fact that the higher the AC temperature selected, the more will be the reduction in home cooling costs.

Tips to buy a Green AC

Certain important factors need to be kept in mind when buying a green air conditioning system. They are:

  • Purchasing an AC unit with higher efficiency will reduce energy usage by about 20% to 50%,
  • Optimum sized AC should be purchased since undersized ACs will increase utility bills without cooling the room and over-utilised ones would result in an increase in utility bills.
  • Ductless ACs or Split ACs should always be preferred as they allow individual regulation of room temperature.
  • Installing whole-house fans cools the house by throwing out warn room air and drawing in cooler outside air thereby:
    • Eliminating the need for using ACs in milder climates and
    • Supplementing the AC during hot climates.

Any step taken towards going green is a smart move. It helps to reduce the high utility bills usually associated with normal air conditioning Sydney.

Which Areas Are Covered Under Air Conditioning Service In Sydney?

Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, enjoys a temperate and sunny climate throughout the year. However, it experiences severe thunderstorms between October and March. Since summers are hot and warm and winters mild, air conditioners are immensely popular there. While the installation of the same poses no problems, it is the servicing that needs attention.

The metropolitan area of Sydney is divided into many different parts. Thus, it becomes mandatory to see if the AC service provider services a particular area in Sydney.  With the ACs providing a comfortable living space without being too obtrusive, it is easy to forget that they need to be serviced. But only when ACs are regularly serviced and repaired on time, can they function well for long. Soit is always better to understand beforehand:

  • If AC servicing is easily available in Sydney and
  • What are the services involved?

If the installation is in a remote area and if it suffers a breakdown, then it will take time for the air conditioner service to reach the area. This is especially true for air conditioning Northern Beaches. So, prevention is better than cure, and ensuring that the ACs are regularly serviced after the required interval help to keep it working steadily prevents the unprecedented breakdown of the HVAC system.

The selection of the AC servicing company depends on certain factors:

  • The areas it services: If the company services all areas of Sydney like the Eastern and Western Suburbs, South Sydney, North Shore, Inner West, Hills District etc., then such a company will prove to be an asset in the future. Even if a person needs to translocate within Sydney, he can do so with peace knowing that the same AC service company will take care of all the details regarding transfer of AC.
  • The services it provides: A servicing company needs to be adept at providing all services related to the functioning of the AC. Some of the services that should be provided by AC servicing companies are:
    • Quality workmanship provided by highly trained and expert technicians,
    • 24×7 service or at least 24×7 accessibility so that:
      • They can be immediately informed after a breakdown and
      • They can send workmen to do the job at the first available opportunity,
    • Provision for emergency service as and when required,
    • On-going support even after the installation is complete so that service requirements can be catered to.
  • Experience and expertise: Air conditioner come in different makes and models. It becomes mandatory for the AC servicing company to provide services for all makes and models that are currently available in the market.

The above factors when taken into consideration make life relatively easy with the AC functioning to its capacity and providing the necessary cooling. If, however, a customer has any doubts, he can get in touch with Endeavour Air Conditioning at (02) 9585 9955 for a superlative AC servicing experience and wide coverage of Sydney.

Is Commercial Air Conditioning System Safe During This Pandemic?

Coronavirus has been termed a pandemic. It has infected millions of people worldwide. With such high infection rates, it becomes important to understand how the virus gets transmitted. This is the only way by which safety measures can be taken and people can adopt ways to safeguard themselves against the virus.

One important question that was foremost in everyone’s mind was whether the virus could be air transmitted. Specifically, whether it was safe to use commercial air conditioning or whether using HVAC systems would aid in its spread.

The data available on the mode of transmission of the virus indicates that it can only be transmitted through droplets. Precisely speaking, when a person talks, sneezes, coughs, laughs out loud, etc., the cough lets that come out transmit the virus from one person to another. Since information about the size of the cough or droplet that can cause infection is still not known and practical data on HVAC and coronavirus transmission is very less, nothing can be said for sure yet.

There are several factors that need to be considered here like:

  • Size of the particles: If droplets are large about 60µm or more, they will land on surfaces where some of the fluid will evaporate making the droplet smaller in size of about 2.5 µm to 10 µm. Droplets of this size remain suspended in the air for quite a long time and hence chances of their entering the HVAC systems are also quite high.

  • Filtration: Each commercial air conditioning unit has a process that filters out particles in different ways and levels. Thus, if the AC has a capacity for filtering out particles bigger than a coronavirus droplet, then COVID 19 can be spread through the AC filtration system. But there is no evidence that amply justifies or proves the fact.

  • Air usage: There are two different ways of air usage in HVAC systems. Some recycle air while others draw air from the outside. The ones that depend on outside air are relatively safer as they reduce the risk of environmental exposure.

  • Temperature and humidity: There is evidence that low temperature and low humidity levels, as is common when using commercial air conditioning in Sydney, enable respiratory infection causing viruses like SARS to survive. But according to AIRAH, there is yet no evidence that proves that aircons aid the transmission of the COVID19 virus.

Aircons are typically air-circulation systems wherein a small portion of outside air is added, and an equal amount expelled. Before the air is recirculated, it is filtered and moved within the system using fans. Heating and cooling are provided by the finned coils present.

A virus infected droplet needs to undergo a journey involving ducted airways with multiple direction changes and varied air velocities. It also experiences multiple impacting surfaces like fans, dampers, grills, and air filters. Thus, there is a high chance that during this journey, the particle would impact surfaces, entrain and then dry on surfaces.

Thus while the transmission is theoretically possible, it is practically not very feasible in well designed and maintained HVAC systems of the commercial air conditioning Sydney. Any person needing more information on whether HVAC systems transmit COVID19 should ideally call up Endeavour Air Conditioning at (02) 9585 9955 for the same.

How to clean up your air conditioning at home during COVID 19 outbreak?

The corona virus pandemic has disrupted almost all aspects of our lives. Additionally, with the summer temperatures rising, it has been a difficult situation to tackle.

The urge to switch on the air conditioning in Sydney to gain comfort from the heat is getting stronger. Yet there is also the fear that switching on the AC without proper servicing can lead to electrical problems. Since most people prefer to get their ACs serviced at the beginning of the season, and lockdown norms preventing the servicemen from coming over, getting the aircon service was becoming a problem of huge proportion.

Taking this into account most AC manufacturers came forward with detailed steps to clean and maintain ACs at home. Cleaning the indoor unit of the AC is quite simple and involves following the below given steps:

  • The AC needs to be switched off before performing any other function. It is best to take off the plug too.

  • Then the Air conditioning Sydney panel needs to be opened. Different ACs have different ways by which they can be opened. Generally, a simple push at both sides is enough to lift it.

  • Now the two filters present inside need to be removed. These filters must be washed using a soft brush and soap. Once cleaned and after proper drying, they can be put back into the AC.

  • The evaporator also attracts dirt, and it is normal to see dirt webs on it. This can be cleaned using a toothbrush and soap water. The dust needs to be gently rubbed with soap water and cleaned further with a soft cloth. Extreme care needs to be taken while doing this otherwise the sharp fins might cut the skin of the fingers and hand. A vacuum cleaner can also be used to remove most of the dirt from the evaporator coils. But to reach the extreme top corners of the Air conditioning in Sydney, it is best to use a soft toothbrush. Keeping the AC panel open to let the evaporator dry is not mandatory but it is a good and safe practice.

  • The filters need to be placed back into the relevant groove after they are dried.

  • The AC panel should be carefully closed, the opened plug put back into the socket and the AC switched on.

This will enable the percolation of cold air into the room thereby bringing down the temperature considerably and making the room comfortable.

The outdoor unit needs to be cleaned next. The AC needs to shut down and the plug removed from the socket. The MCB controlling the AC also needs to be switched off. The top of the outdoor unit is then unscrewed and the condenser fins present need to be vacuumed. The soft-bristled attachment of the vacuum cleaner should be used to rid the fan of anything that might hinder airflow. Once cleaned, the fan needs to be removed, and the interior washed with a high-speed water jet. It needs to be left to dry completely before switching on the Air conditioner Sydney.

If the air conditioner still does not function to capacity, it is best to get in touch with Endeavour Air Conditioning at (02) 9585 9955.
